I've had good results using Dia-Sharp diamond "stones" with a Crocker graver sharpening jig. The Dia-Sharps are very flat and heavy compared to the other brands. I use a 120grit to quicklytrue up badly chipped tips, then go to a 1200grit for honing. The Crocker jig is fully adjustable and makes it easy to get a precisely angled cutting surface.
